109, 117, 118 Families Features
Different sizes' drive and pulse transformers based on ferrite EE cores, with interleaved windings. They typically have trasfer area values from hundred to thousand μVs, depending on the dimension. They are by far the most used drive transformers because of their versatility, that makes them suitable for many application fields, with different working voltages, currents and frequencies. The greatest advantage of these components is their flexibility: it is very easy to obtain different solutions by changing the main winding variables, like the windings' number of turns, in function of the needed transfer area and turns ratio; the wires' section, in relation to the windings current; the numbers of isolating layers and the distances between windings, according to the requested isolation, or to the working voltage, or to the coupling capacity level that the application requires; the internal construction in terms of windings' disposition, to achieve the leakage inductance value (i.e. sandwich topology, parallel winding...). They are tipically used in IGBTs, power MOSFETs and BJTs' high frequency firing circuits. Standard versions are designed with one or two secondary windings.
The development of such a type of drive transformers is oriented to the production with automatic multi-mandrel winding machines, that is always more desirable than a manual winding process, as it allows to guarantee a stable quality and a well defined construction for all pieces and obviously it reduces at the same time the production cost.
